Shampooing a carpet was a popular cleaning method from way back until the ’70s. Although, surprisingly we still get asked by clients if their carpets will be shampooed.
Currently, a more advanced cleaning method called deep steam cleaning (also known as hot water extraction) has taken over carpet shampooing. Mainly because it dries up much quicker. This is why most companies consider washing a carpet with shampoo an obsolete method. Making it difficult to find information about it.
Comparing the two cleaning methods, deep steam cleaning would be regarded as a better option for so many reasons. One would be the equipment used is much lighter making it easier to use and carry around. The other is that it saves a lot of time as it dries up quickly. The method only uses steam. If shampooed, thick layers of the soap will seep into the carpet requiring repeated and thorough washing. Therefore it will take a long time to dry up.
Once the carpet’s all dried up and looking clean, and after waiting for ages, the carpet will still feel like it’s got an icky layer of residue left.
Because of this sticky residue, it will be easier for dirt to accumulate on the carpet so it’ll need to be cleaned more often. The chemicals in the shampoo will also later stain the carpet with a yellow like effect.
It’s almost impossible to find a company that still does shampoo cleaning unless your carpet is in a very hopeless situation like it hasn’t been cleaned for years. There are a thick grime layer and deep stains underneath.
While these situations can rationalize shampoo cleaning. It is still indisputable that deep steam cleaning can efficiently bring even carpets in such conditions back to life.
